The Oriental garden merges with the English countryside…..exotic birds, hares, butterflies, cows and flying ducks set against backgrounds of vintage china. Transfer patterns from the 1950s encounter 1930s hand painted imagery, Victorian gilt, Rococoesque floribunda and ornamental Chinoiserie.

Happiest when using cracked, chipped or broken plates and cups Janine has no qualms about smashing them to use in her mosaics. But she is finding it increasingly difficult to break them all. This has led to a new body of work using plates as a floral backdrop for her mosaic fauna.

The theme for the summer 2008 collection relates to the garden and the countryside. Hares, cows, butterflies and birds populate the landscape scenes on the plates. Janine wants us to slow down, breathe in and take a moment to relax whether we are in the town, city or the country.
